Betfair rumoured to be planning London Stock Exchange float - 26th January 2010

Online gambling exchange Betfair is understood to have appointed Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley to advise on a £1.5 billion flotation.

The company, which is backed by Japanese lender Softbank, is thought to be examining an autumn listing which would potentially net co-founders Ed Wray and Andrew Black hundreds of millions of pounds.

The news will renew hopes of a spree of initial public offerings (IPOs) in 2010 as private equity owners take advantage of calmer markets to exit investments and company managements look to raise fresh capital.

Last week, holiday services company Travelport announced its intention to hold a £1.1 billion IPO on the London Stock Exchange.

Other well-known names in the frame are retailer New Look, which has been eyeing a £1.7 billion flotation since last year, and Merlin Entertainment, the owner of the London Eye and Legoland.

Further down the market capitalisation scale are Blackburn-based Promethean, which provides interactive whiteboards and educational tools for schools, computer games company Codemasters and semiconductor manufacturer Icera, all of which are mulling IPOs.

Betfair offers a twist on online punting by allowing gamblers to bet against one another on sports matches and horse racing. It also hosts internet poker and casino games such as blackjack and roulette.

Last year, the company reported a 29 per cent increase in earnings to £72m on the back of 27 per cent higher sales at £303m. Becoming a public entity would put it in a position to consolidate smaller players.

Responding to suggestions of a flotation in the third quarter, a spokesperson for Betfair said: "This is only speculation, and we do not comment on speculation."

PartyCasino Wins Media Man Online Casino Award, by Greg Tingle - January 2010

PartyCasino.com Wins Media Man Online Casino Award

PartyCasino.com has been awarded the Media Man and Casino News Media "Online Casino Of The Month".

PartyGaming's igaming suite has grown a custom to winning awards since they first opened for business in 1997.

The competition for the coveted award was intense again this month with massive bids from both Captain Cooks Casino, Virgin Casino, Roxy Palace, Betfair, PKR and Noble Casino, however there can only be one winner... ladies and gentlemen, that's PartyCasino.com

The award follows PartyPoker's EGR Poker Operator Of The Year and PartyGaming also made the shortlist for EGR Operator Of The Year. Last month PartyGaming's PartyPoker.com also won the Casino News Media "Online Poker Website Of The Month".

The Media Man - Casino News Media accolade is based on a combination of elements including user experience, innovation, trustworthiness, customer service, gameplay, affiliate program offerings, newsworthiness and company values.

PartyCasino.com is one of a number of PartyGaming brands.

The most popular PartyCasino.com games of late include Rambo, The Godfather, Sinatra, Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Mission: Impossible, The Terminator, Cleopatra, Sinatra, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, The Amazing Spider-Man, Monopoly, Resident Evil, Melon Madness, Wheel Of Fortune and Mega Fortune Wheel.

The PartyCasino.com jackpot is currently approaching the $1 million mark. Players can also compete for The Big One and Marvel Hero Jackpot, playing the Marvel super hero themed online slot games.

PartyCasino's most recent game releases include Melon Madness, Tarzan, High Noon and Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

PartyGaming CEO Jim Ryan has gone on record advising PartyCasino will soon feature more Hollywood blockbuster themed slots. A few in the know journalists and media agents have been recently tipped off that pro wrestling themed online slot games are in the works and that an all time classic movie adaption will be showcased in the PartyCasino portfolio within 3 months. Names been thrown around include Andre The Giant, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper and Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, but those names are only rumors, however a print feature did showcase Andre earlier in the year, indicating that there is substance to the rumor mill. In any event, PartyCasino already has the world's most impressive line up of Hollywood themed games, and more are just around the corner.

In other exciting PartyGaming news, PartyPoker.com is currently running qualifiers to the L.A Poker Classic in the United States. PartyGaming's recent purchase of the World Poker Tour company and assets enables PartyGaming to once again accept American based poker players, and they are hopefully of soon accepting American casino players also. Both websites accept most European, South American and Australian players.

PartyCasino.com and PartyPoker.com customers can also benefit from rewards and bonuses via PartyPoints and the Palladium Lounge. Be certain to check out the PartyCasino exclusive "Cash Machine" that is being championed as one of the greatest online casino promos ever.

Media Man, Casino News Media and Global Gaming Directory do have a b2b relationship with PartyGaming, as they do with dozens of other companies in the gaming, igaming, media and entertainment industry.

PartyGaming hits the jackpot - 22nd January 2010

Gambling on a possible £2bn-plus merger in the world of online gaming proved a favourite pastime for excited punters.

Shareholders of PartyGaming hit the jackpot as the shares shot up to 297.7p and closed 16.7p higher at 2851/2p after Bwin, Europe's biggest online betting and gaming group, revealed it is in merger talks with the Gibraltar-based online gaming giant.

Bwin said the talks are 'no indication' that there will be a merger while PartyGaming grudgingly added it is in talks with a 'number of companies' about consolidation and discussions are at 'a preliminary stage'. However, as far as professional speculators are concerned, it would be a marriage made in heaven and a deal must be on the cards.

PartyGaming was once the most valuable publicly traded gambling stock in the world when it was worth £6.4bn in August 2005, after floating at 115p in June of that year. The US Department of Justice's clampdown on internet gambling in 2007 then trashed its valuation as did some controversial share sales by its founder directors.

It is now back on the recovery track and a recent statement revealed that trading since the end of September 2009 has been solid, with a return to sequential revenue growth. It has also announced an exclusive five-year agreement to provide an online gaming platform for poker and casino games in Denmark for Danske Spil.

Back in November all the industry gossip was about a possible Bwin offer for 888 Holdings, 4.9p better at 116p. 888 appears a harder nut to crack as brothers Avi and Aaron Skaked own 50pc of the equity through family trusts. Another pair of brothers, Shay and Ron Ben-Yitzhak, control a further 11pc.

PartyPartners achieves eCOGRA affiliate trust seal

20th January 2010

Websites

PartyCasino.com

PartyPartners.com

LONDON, England -(PRESS RELEASE) - PartyPartners.com, the affiliate program for several leading online gambling brands in the PartyGaming plc group, has successfully passed the on-site inspection and monitoring requirements of player protection and standards body eCOGRA.

The program is now entitled to display the eCOGRA Affiliate Trust Seal, which certifies that it observes best practice operational standards of fairness and efficiency in dealing with affiliate marketers, and is independently reviewed on a regular basis.

eCOGRA chief executive Andrew Beveridge said that the Affiliate Trust seal is awarded contingent on the applicant company meeting clearly defined international standards and undergoing a comprehensive on-site inspection and audit of its business systems by a professionally qualified eCOGRA compliance team.

"Among the criteria for accreditation, applicant programs must show that affiliate revenue is calculated fairly and accurately, that payments are prompt, and that there are appropriate controls in place to accurately link players to affiliates," he said. "Achieving accreditation such as PartyPartners has done requires professional commitment and impeccable administrative and business systems."

eCOGRA compliance team leader Sean Roberts, a fully qualified Chartered Accountant who managed the audit at PartyPartners, said that it had been a significant project in his experience.

"This is a major and respected tier one international gambling group with top online casino, poker, bingo and sportsbetting brands, all using the PartyPartners affiliate program to manage relationships with thousands of affiliates around the world," he said.

"We were impressed by the competency of both staff and systems, which we thoroughly tested at full capacity to determine efficiency and consistency levels. In my opinion it is among the most professionally managed businesses I have encountered in hundreds of eCOGRA reviews and audits at major Internet companies."

Jim Ryan, chief executive officer at PartyGaming said he was pleased but not surprised that PartyPartners had done so well in the accreditation process.

"We have a really good management team in place there, which recognises the importance of our affiliates and their contribution to our success," he said. "The achievement of this industry-respected accreditation is an affirmation of our full commitment to operational efficiency and integrity in this critical area of our business.

"The eCOGRA certification is achieved through practical and professional testing and inspection, and I am pleased that we have achieved the high standards required," he added. "It reinforces our market positioning as a serious affiliate program giving affiliates significant revenue opportunities through a trusted system with outstanding brands.

"It's important to have this externally audited."

PartyGaming's PartyPartners To Attend London Affiliate Conference (LAC); PartyGaming and industry interest in 'Casino Jack' documentary

PartyGaming's PartyPartners To Attend London Affiliate Conference (LAC); PartyGaming and industry interest in 'Casino Jack' documentary, by Greg Tingle - 20th January 2010

The world's leading listed igaming company, PartyGaming, will have numerous staff and management attending the annual London Affiliate Conference (LAC) that kicks off on the 28th of this month, and runs to the 31st.

The famous Old Billingsgate Market is the venue for the event which expects thousands of people to attend over the 4 day igaming fest.

Industry buzz predicts that PartyGaming, PartyCasino.com, PartyPoker.com and Club World Poker Tour are all strong chances to pick up an iGB Affiliate Award or three.

PartyPartners is the LAC's Platinum sponsor, however it needs to be noted that the event has in the region of 80 sponsors, so nothing untoward is expected and it should be a clean "fight".

The event is one of the world's best opportunities to network with the leading people and companies in the gaming and igaming industry.

Some of the topics expected to be hot include "what's next", standing out from the pack, game innovation and "Avatar" type technology, potential return to the U.S. market, expansion into new frontiers, like Australia, and a bit of gossip as to what to expect in upcoming award winning documentary, "Casino Jack".

Representatives and insiders from the world's 4 continents will be attending, and Media Man looks forward to breaking news via the Asia Pacific - Australian connection.

The smart money says PartyGaming to pick up at least a couple of awards, not a virgin in the slightest to bragging rights, and don't be surprised to see a new game or two launched.

It's going to be a heck of a party at London's Old Billingsgate, and you can bet Media Man and Casino News Media will have a massive scoop. Stay tuned.

PartyGaming News Update - 11th January 2010

PartyGaming dipped 0.1p to 279.3p. The online gaming company signed a five year deal to supply an online gaming platform for poker and casino games for Danske Spil, the Danish government controlled gambling and national lottery business. Despite the news, broker Collins Stewart issued a sell note on PartyGaming. Analyst Paul Leyland said:

We see Party's earnings coming under threat from three areas. First, regulating markets are likely to push the company into B2B deals potentially less attractive for market share, pooling and residual profit. Second, certain key markets could actually close. Finally, the need to support casino as a stand-alone product is likely to drive up marketing and content costs simply to hold revenue up. We see each of these playing out over 2010.

Virgin Casino Launches More GTECH G2 Side Games Including Web Version of Land-based Casino Favourite, Bar X Magic 7

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN, 18th January 2010 - Virgin Casino has added four more games from the GTECH G2 side games portfolio. The Electrocoin Bar X Magic launched at the popular UK casino several weeks ago and now four more proven popular games have been added: Triple Chance Hi Lo, Casino Dice, Spin Win, Aces High, Bingo Keno Extreme.

"We've found that our players like the instant gratification of GTECH G2 side games. They're quick and easy to play and they integrate well with our back end systems," said Simon Burridge of Virgin Games.

"I'm delighted that we're widening our relationship with Virgin to include the supply of games as well as poker," said Leigh Nissim, Commercial Director, GTECH G2. "This new aspect of our relationship demonstrates a key strength of GTECH G2 - namely that we can provide our customers with a full suite of products across online gaming verticals."

Bar X Magic 7 is a three reel, single line fruit machine with three jackpots. It's an online version of the Bar X game that has been around for thirty years and is well established with over 55,000 machines in bingo halls and gaming arcades throughout the UK and Ireland.

The unique games being added at Virgin Casino were developed by the games designers at Dynamite Idea, one of four leading igaming companies acquired by lottery industry giant GTECH to form their new igaming division GTECH G2. The Dynamite Idea team specializes in developing innovative online interactive betting games including several unique hi lo, dice and number games.

GTECH G2 combines the software development and customer management expertise of Boss Media, Finsoft, Dynamite Idea and St Minver and operates the International Poker Network and International Bingo Network.

About GTECH G2

Right2bet Press Release - The Industry Fights Back! - 15th January 2010

The Industry Fights back!

It been another exciting week for the Right2bet campaign, with several 'fronts' having reopened in the war against supposedly 'consumer led' protectionist laws, many of which seem only to serve the interests of decreeing governments, leaving consumers short changed.

The big news is again from Poland, who you may remember recently introduced a spate of new laws after a corruption scandal implemented several politicians and lawmakers. Without allowing the dust to settle, Politicians in the country quickly banned all new ventures in the industry, restricting the consumer to the countries few existing land based Casinos and introducing strict new laws regarding online gambling. Only now has the European Commission taken a look into the situation, and unsurprisingly they don't appear to be impressed. Like us, they seem to believe that the new laws were not introduced to protect the Polish consumer (the only way a monopoly or heavily protectionist market can be introduced) but to deflect the political fallout from the corruption scandal, started by the very same Government!

Also in a little bit of bother over recently altered legislation are the French, who drew up plans over last year to restructure the market in France. Whilst the French system is moving in the right direction, the RGA and EGBA have noticed that the taxation structure imposed on companies is restrictive to the point of dissuading competition, not to mention the laws astonishing criminalisation of the betting exchange sector.

Similarly, the Right2bet blog this week reviewed the situation in the Italian market, several months after some of the restrictions on the countries betting and Casino gambling market were lifted. Whilst the move was certainly one in the right direction, a quick review of the current state of affairs shows that the former monopolies still control a staggering two thirds of the countries market, mainly due to the additional barriers to entry levied on foreign companies.

The Right2bet blog is available to view at www.right2bet.net, and keeps you updated with all the latest news regarding European gambling regulation, not to mention the array of interesting (and fun) features, such as the poetry corner and our forthcoming 'Renegade Ref' video series!

PartyGaming joins spread betting party, by Greg Tingle - 15th January 2010

London Capital Group and PartyGaming ink deal. A new player in an ultra competitive sector.

The spread betting market in the UK sector is one of the most competitive in the world, mind you, so is the igaming sector, so one shouldn't be surprised that PartyGaming is ramping up, as its been doing with its casino, poker, bingo and media related sectors of the company.

News today is that PartyGaming has inked a three-year deal with London Capital Group to soon offer a financial spread betting platform. PartyGaming also has brand names PartyBets.com and PartyMarkets, so its probable that the deal with go into one of those brand names.

Industry analysts will of course question if London Capital Group assisting another white label partner into the UK market is a good or bad move. That's something only time will tell. PartyGaming is a large and established player thus can help to offset any costs and reduce majors risks in prime spread betting.

PartyGaming Plc is reportedly the world’s leading listed online gaming company.

The Group is a constituent of the FTSE 250 share index with its shares listed on The London Stock Exchange under the ticker: PRTY. In the year to 31 December 2008, PartyGaming’s Continuing operations generated revenues of $472.9m and Clean EBITDA of $144.2m.

Partygaming has a global reach, and that should place them in a strong position. The Asia Pacific region, and in particular, Australia, is seen to have strong growth potential in the sector.

It's expected that a number of PartyGaming punters will take to the financial spread betting offering, just as some bingo players take to casino, poker and table games. Exactly how much cross over audience for spread betting remains to be see.

PartyGaming News: Danske Spil chooses PartyGaming to launch online games in Denmark

11th January 2010

PartyGaming, the world’s leading listed online gaming company, today announces an exclusive, five-year agreement to provide an online gaming platform for poker and casino games in Denmark for Danske Spil A/S (‘Danske Spil’).

Controlled by the Danish Government, The Danske Spil Group is one of the largest betting and gaming organisations in Europe with DKK 10,955 million of turnover in 2008. Offering a variety of gaming products in Denmark including the national lottery, numbers games, instant games as well as gambling on machines, Danske Spil has also established a large online gaming business and already has over 500,000 registered online customers.

In 2009 the Danish Government published draft legislation for a partially liberalised gaming market in Denmark that is expected to become law in 2011. If adopted, poker and casino will be among the games subjected to open competition in the Danish market. Whilst Danske Spil has strengthened its position in a number of online gaming categories such as bingo, sports betting and casual games with strong growth in the number of players and revenues, it recognised the need to join forces with a leading online gaming company in order to achieve its potential.

Over the past seven months, Danske Spil has screened the market for providers of services and potential online partners that specialise in poker and casino games. As part of its selection criteria, Danske Spil was determined to find a supplier that matched its own high standards for product quality, security and ethical requirements. PartyGaming passed all of these pre-requisites and is set to create a new strategic alliance with Danske Spil in Denmark. It is expected that the commercial terms between both companies will be finalised within the next few weeks.

Commenting on today’s announcement, Jim Ryan, Chief Executive Officer of PartyGaming said:

“This is a landmark B2B deal for PartyGaming and validates our strategy to become a leading provider of B2B services to both corporates and governments around the world. Danske Spil is widely recognised as one of Europe’s leading gambling businesses, one that is pre-eminent in the Danish market. We are delighted that Danske Spil has recognised our expertise and high standards of business practice and we look forward to building a significant and profitable enterprise as soon as the newly regulated Danish online gaming market opens.”

H.C. Madsen, CEO at Danske Spil, said:

"With some of the world’s leading products in online poker and casino as well as a large international customer base, PartyGaming is definitely a strong business partner for Danske Spil. Combining this with Danske Spil’s unique and strong position in the Danish market with more than 500,000 Danish online customers will guarantee that together we will deliver a highly attractive customer experience to players in Denmark."
